I heard this but have been unable to get any information. If anyone could give me details I'd appreciate it.

Indeed, all airlines to Lukla and back have the 15kg limit.

Thanks for the replies on the weight limit. Does that include carry-on? Or is that not an option on those planes?
Thanks,
Pete O.

You are allowed some carry-on, say a small day pack, in addition to the 15kg checked baggage. The strategy (if required) is to wear all your heavy stuff eg: boots etc on the plane. The kg limit may or may not be strictly enforced at check-in depending on who else is willing to pay to take up your unused weight allowance for cargo type goods.
Seriously though unless you are climbing or something your trekking weight which either you or a porter will have to carry, should not be more than 15kg anyway. 15kg being the basis for the standard load system for porters (15kg, 30 kg, 45kg etc etc etc)

Thanks for the info. I was a little confused hearing about airline weight limits and then reading here about people carrying 60lb.--~30kg packs.
Well, out goes the toothbrush...

I find it hard to believe anyone is carrying 30 kg, unless they are one of the porters carrying stuff for some local, or occasionally for one of the big international tour operators.
Tourist never carry that, not with the lodges available at every corner in Khumbu... Not unless one wants to go on some solo camping trip in some remote area.
Agree with rich, you should not need more than 15 kg for a nomral trek to EBC or Gokyo, even if you carry your own stuff.
