I was inspired to this post by someone elses question on hotels. My
main point is that it is a good idea to choose well when you decide on
where to stay.

I came first time to Kathmandu in 1983 and stayed then at the Star
Hotel in Thamel. On several visits over the next couple of years I stayed
at the Century Lodge in Freak Street.

But since 1989 I have always stayed at Lhasa Guest House in Thamel.
It is nothing fancy or particularly charming, but adequate for my needs.
Since my first stay there they still charge me the same price. This is 15
years now and the price, in dollars, is the same!

It is quite a small hotel and the staff has remained the same. But still I
am quite amazed that they always recognise me. Since quite a few years
now I don't come as frequently to Nepal as I used to and the staff
remember better than I do which rooms I do not particularly like, and if
there is no other vacancy they will be very apologetic abou it.
I should mention that we are a group of friends who have stayed there
single or two or three or four at a time, I guess that has helped establish
us in their minds as valuable customers.

I have heard others tell of similar VIP treatment but I do not think it
applies in the bigger hotels.

If you think you may be returning several times it is probably a good idea
to choose well on your first stay, or at least on the second.
