This might get rid of the bottleneck that is Bangkok in the trekking "high seasons". This applies especially to tourists going to Nepal from Australia/New Zealand, and maybe even USA. The best and quickest way for us "downunders" is via Bangkok, espeicially since Singapore Airlines has ceased flying to KTD about 3 years ago.

"Phuket Air to start operation in Nepal from March

Phuket Air, a prominent private airline of Thailand, is set to launch flights on Bangkok-Kathmadnu-Dubai route from March 9.

Phuket Air officials said at an inaugural ceremony on the occasion of the launching of the Bangkok-Kathmadnu-Dubai route in Kathmandu on Wednesday that they planned three flights a week.

Senior vice-chairman of Phuket Air, Kuun Kanin, Phuvastein, said the flight service would contribute to Nepal’s tourism industry by spreading the message about Nepal’s natural beauty and cultural uniqueness.

Speaking at the program, Thai ambassador to Nepal, Penchome Incharoensak, said the tourism between Nepal and Thailand would get a boost with the start of Phuket Air flights. “Many Thais are visiting Nepal each year while the number of Nepalis visiting Thailand is also growing. The number will rise furthermore once the flights start,” the ambassador said.

Likewise, chief executive of Nepal Tourism Board, Tek Bahadur Dangi, expressed the view that the launching of Phuket Air flights was going to be crucial in portraying a positive image of Nepal, which is constantly struggling to fight the negative publicity at the international level.

Kathmandu is the fifth international destination of Phuket Air. With 13 aircraft, it operates flights to Dubai, London, Yangon of Myanmar and Chatgaon of Bangladesh."
