Just wanting some info. on trekking the annapurna circuit with a 2 year old.
I have done some trekking before and am looking to do the circuit with my wife and daughter. I would like a guide/porter although im quite happy to carry our share. It is our first visit to Nepal and will be spending 3-4 weeks in the Kingdom. Depending on views expressed we would like also to spend some time in Tibet around Lhasa. Any info would be of great assistance. It looks as though we would be travelling in the later part of the yaear perhaps Oct/Nov.
Thanks in advance
Damien

Children are more sensitive to altitude than adults. You will need to go slower, and take longer to acclimatise. Pay good attention to how the child feels after you've reached about 3000m. If not use, stay there longer before climibing up. People with children usually take care of the altitute problem by going shorter day, say 3-4 hours instead of 5-6 per day.
Also, you'll have to pay more atention to hygiene than you'd normally do. Not necessarily because it is dirtier on trek than in your home country, but your and the child's body are not used to the bugs there. I would take appropriate pills and hydration fluids. Also make sure the child has vacctinations upto date, maybe include encephalitis (although it is not a problem in Nepal).
In rest you'll probably have to employe an extra guide to cary your daugher in his doko, unles you want to carry her yourself.
Feel free to email me if you have any other questions. Not that I have all the answers but I did trek with a child, albeit a bit older than 2 years.
I guess if you take the precautions without getting paranoic, it should be an ejoyable trek.

your child will also not be able to tell you clearly if she/he has a headache or doesn't feel well - and a carried child will get colder than a walking adult. I'm not saying don't do this - I am saying that if it were me I would wait to do high altitude cold weather treks with a somewhat older child.
