Just back from the Annapurna Circuit. We were too concerned before we went about the Moaists. Just go and do the trip and you will be fine. It becomes so clear that the trekking business is vital to the rural economy of Nepal. The moaists do not want to further jeprodize this business as they will certainly realize they would allinate many of the people of the trekking regions. Its sad to see so few Americans trekking. The Dutch, French, Brits, Isrealis etc don't seem to be scared off ( Isrealies we talked to said, hey this is nothing like home--why should we be afraid.)
I am sorry the US State Department seems to go over board with their scare tactics.
One thing we had not plan to do worked out well. We hired an excellent guide and were glad we did. He was an interpreter of both the lanuage and culture and well worth $12 per day. His name is Pasang Dendi Sherpa (pasang_dendi@hotmail.com) he speaks very good English and is a great companion. E mail me if you want more information.
