In the beginn of the so called hippy trail, most travellers went to Freak street or Pig Alley.
nowaday most people only know Thamel.
But I like still very much the more quieter freakstreet area with a lot of small lodges. :)
Every thing is much more basic than in thamel, but it is also much quieter and more relax.
I've made an overview

Absolutely fantastic, thanks Andrees!!!
Can't wait to go there now... For the Cream Caramel and the Masala Dosa, now that the pot houses are closed.

Nice one Andrées. I like to take a stroll down Freak Street, Cafe Snowman is a favourite of mine. Also I'd suggest checking out the Rooftop Restaurant (most of the way down the road and on the left, IIRC), it is 6 stories high with a lift - there are great views from the top but beware there are a lot of steps if the lift is out of action due to load-shedding.
