Several companies offer flights in 16 seater planes up to Everest. Each seat has a window and the himla will be on your side one way of the trip. The flights are around $100 US. Book an early flight as they never leave on time and the earlier you go, more luck for clear skies.
I tried to email you some info but your email address bounced back as full.

Just took a look at my inbox and it's been full for ages! I was wondering why I wasn't receiving any e-mails! Anyway I've cleaned it out now so it should be ok to use again!
Thanks
Katinka

As has been said, planes only. Choppers can't get near the place - too hight (they can just get to base camp at a push). I'm guessing light aircraft can go a little higher, but don't expect to fly over the top of it. You'll need pressurisation to do that...

Hi Don

This doesn't help a trekker wanting a close up view but a flight over Everest has been done. Check out www.flymicro.com/everest. I met him a couple of times during my trek last year. Saw his digital photo of a group on top of Everest as he went by, and yes, he did get some grief over violating air space, someone else lays claim to the other side of Everest.

That would be the forbidden side of Tibet then!

I did hear about something like that. Was he on gas, do you know? It would be a difficult flight, with the airstream up there. Microlights are an amazing tool. But as they fly rather churn the air (helicopter), that's how they can operate at high altitudes.

a film of this escapade, titled "Flying over Everest", is being screened at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival this weekend. http://www.mountainfilm.co.uk/

And I happen to know Richard, the microlight guy (via website work stuff). He tells me that the film is very much "the Italian version" of the story, but they are soon off to do the same stunt over Aconcagua - I hope Angelo makes it this time. ;)

Sorry to waffle off topic, but the KMFF is rather good am I'm excited to be going again. It was one of Doug Scott's lectures that was inspired me to first go to Nepal. I'd heartily recommend it to anyone who can make it. If any of the UK readers of this forum are going then please feel free to drop me a line and maybe we can swap trekking stories over a pint :)

The mountain flights are US$120 although you might get discounts from some companies if its slow season.

I did the everest flight (mountain flight as its called) and we were supposed to depart at 6:30am (Yeti Airlines) but only took off at 8:00am.

It was a 60 minute flight and we were allowed up into the cockpit at will really to film and got some great shots of everest and the mountain range that runs west to the annapurna range.

It was worth it for me as I didnt go to Lukla or NB due to a lack of $$$ and time...but for me and my gf, it was worth it.

Thanks for the update Oli. I had some time to talk with Richard as we were both held in Lulka for a day due to bad weather. It was whilst the Italian was still being 'rescued' from near INN 5000 (I think)
