Is there any reliable cobbler at Kathmandu who can repair my boots? It's got a Vibram sole. The top/leather and sole/vibram part of the boots are still in good condition but the cushion/foam part has disintegrated. I heard from my local distributor that I can have them re-soled at a normal cobbler here, but I'm wondering if the cobblers at Kathmandu have more experience with trekking boots. Cheers.

I wouldn't trust the guys in Kathmandu to do a repair that would be sufficiently good job for a trek. They are unlikely to have the correct materials, but fix it up with what they have at hand, they might do a good job but then it could fail after a few days of hard wear and either become uncomfortable or fall apart - either would render them useless for trekking.

IMO the one thing that you must have sorted before arriving in Nepal are boots. It is not worth taking a risk or compromising on footwear.

Well there's certainly one in Marpha and they really believe in the power of advertising! We saw this painted on a rock on the trail to Marpha. I particularly like the second line, hard to read, which says "You can make your shoes useless if you repair them in other places - from here 5 and a half hours..."
