Just back from ABC and Poon Hill Trek. No problems with Maoists. (Paid donation to them at Chomrong) but no hassle. Nepalese are the Friendliest people in the world. Spent all my time smiling. Food great, mountains big and country beautiful. Ignore any government advice not to travel. We were there for 3 weeks and had no problems in Kathmandu, Pokhara or on trek. Also very cheap as the lodges/hotels/restaurents are crying out for business. Just GO!!! :)

Hello, just wondering if there are many companies still running treks in December? We (2) arrive 06 Dec and leave 20 Dec from KTM.

Hello, we had changed our plans not to go to Nepal and so sent our sleeping bags home...can we hire some there and down jackets too? Expensive?

You can hire any trekking gear from Pokhara or Kathmandu. I got a down jacket from my trekking agency and was very pleased with it. Probably a free leftover from some earlier trekker, used many times, but good enough for me - and warm. They asked 60 rupees for that and then forgot to charge it in the end. I also forgot :( but they got good money from us anyway, so I do not feel too guilty. Anyway - no, it is not expensive at all.

There are loads of companies in both Kathmandu and Pokhara. We used First Environmental Trekking based in Thamel who were sent to us by the Kathmandu Guest House. We did the trek without porters or guides but they still sorted out flights, hotels, permits. I would certainly recommend them. Try their website on www.firstenvironmentaltrekking.com
