Looking for advice on tent trekking vs sleeping in lodges during Everest region trek (I'm aware of the cost difference between the two options).

We're a group of 4, going for Lukla - Gokyo - ChoLa - Kala Pattar - Lukla route in November. We'll be going with a local agency.

Anybody did this route / region with tent trekking option? Did you like it?
I've heard the lodges get really crowded in Oct-Nov period - what are the chances of getting a double room?

Thnx,
Indy

In April at Machermo we had these Canadians sleeping in Tents in the lodge ground were we staid. They were having to push one of the 5 yaks out of the way to get out of one of the tents. It also happen to snow that night and the temperature dropped below 0 celsius. Lovely stuff. In the meantime we were sleeping in the lodge, quite nicely by comparison.

Doing a tent trek in any of the popular trekking areas (Solu-Khumbu, Langtang, Annapurna) is not necessarily an exciting experience... You will tent on lodge grounds, not somewhere nice, near a forest or river. Trekking in Khumbu, on the usual Gokyo or EBC treks is not a "wildrerness experience". Why would you tent when you have to tent near a lodge in a village?? The lodges are perfectly ok and there are enough of them now to be able to find a place. Most rooms are double.
Even if you sleep in a tent, you will have to use the lodges toilets for example... Does not make sense to me.

If you decide to trek off the beaten trak, to Tilicho or around Dhaulagiri for example, then yes tenting is the only way.

Yea, Yakshaver is quite right - for Everest & Annapurna the lodges are good enough that you'd be crazy to camp (unless you plan a long & wild side trek). In fact I'd say that camping may be more expensive - you still have to pay to pitch your tent. And you have extra weight to carry.

I´m planning a tent trek, but I must confess that what yakshever just told did make my entusiasm goes down...

Sure that is no place to camp betwen the villages or out the villages. The lodges are the only and one way to enjoy the nights there? I´m hopping have time enough to go to Gokyo e EBC, so I think I´ll need an tent.

Sinds I got a storm in the Pirineus having no tent by, trekking without tent is for me go to the city without clothes.

Is me again. What I was trying to make was a question. So:
