I'm in the process of "changing jobs" and might be able to wangle 2 weeks leave in between jobs to do a quick trek in Nepal ( oh yes ). However, I've looked at flights departing towards the end of this month from London and they are incredibly expensive compared to what I was expecting. I'm talking £1500 or thereabouts. At that cost, I just can't afford it.
Anyone know where the cheap deals are, if any?
I know it's peak season and short notice, but the timing is not my choice.
Cheers

You mean you aren't going to cycle? :p You could be there and back in two weeks (it's all downhill on the way back).
Have you looked at:-
Cheap Flights UK (http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/Nepal/London/)
I haven't drilled down with dates to see if I am getting the same cost as you, but trawling through that site and ringing some of the bucket shops will tell you exactly what the going rate is. All I know is I often get £1500 for a flight come up as I first look but I can always get it down to 50% hunting around. At least I have up to now.

I've had a bit more of a look. It seems Saturday to Saturday flights are the most expensive - £1500 as you say. Moving to Friday and there are some for £1000, for Thursday too. Try looking at week days and the price may drop. I know Qatar fly daily now. I would ring a bucket shop and get them to have a look at UK to Delhi, Delhi to KTM not on a weekend and see what prices they can dig up for you.

Dear Escher,
Fair point! I might cycle if I'm on my own, otherwise I think I'll be going with my son, aged 8. He's too small for long days in the saddle but he did OK on a trek earlier this year.
The problem with those cheap flight websites is that the advertised fares are rarely available when you actually try and book. I'll persevere!
If I manage to arrange it, I think I'll be off to Ganesh Himal area for a wander about at random.

Yeah sure, but it provides a good list of websites and phone numbers to trawl through. Good luck!

About a year ago I bought a one way ticket Delhi - Kathmandu for 6800 In Rs,
quite exactly £100.
I booked it from home through mail to Trips Out Travels in New Delhi;

There are numerous airlines flying London - Delhi.

As a frequent flyer to India, I can tell you that flights are pretty cheap to Delhi until November end (around £400 economy, with BA and Virgin, check Jet Airways too.) So Lars's suggestion of taking a second flight from Delhi to Kathmandu may well be worthwhile.
Jet Airways and Indian Airlines are bound to have flights going to KTM. There are a number of other budget airlines operating in India these days (which are much better than Ryanair and Easyjet by the way). I have no idea whether they go to KTM though. Their names are, Jetlite (Jetairways's budget end, but very good), Indigo, SpiceJet, Dacca. In my opinion Jetlite and Indigo are the better airlines.
You could also check the following Indian online travel agents, though again I don't know if they do flights to KTM.
