Can someone give me an idea of how cold it gets on the Everest base camp trek? I am trying to ascertain how extreme my gear needs to be, whether I can get away with 3 season bag etc. How about availability of bottled water along the way, is it necessary to pack a purifier? Thanks!

Water is no problem, you can get boiled water from the guesthouse, or buy bottled water. Only problem with bottled water is the waste from the empty bottles
Buy the best sleeping bag you can get, a good night sleep makes a big difference in enjoying the day. Adown jacket only for on windy peaks and passes, and in the lodges at night! for 30 dollars for sale in Kath (see the Australian guy in Tamel)

4 season bags are cheap to rent in kathmandu. Be comfortable, rest well and enjoy the trip! Drinking water is readily available at lodges. I also take pristine which is a great water purifier for emergencies, check www.pristine.ca

Yes, water - boiled and bottled is available. good sleeping bag, or lacking that various layers of pijamas and polypropylene underwear is necessary. The lodges will give you a blanket or two if your sleeping bag is not to warm. This helps. But the blankets are usually a bit dirty... Again this is ok, if you ignore it, as you will sleep in your sleeping bag and have the blankets over the bag.
