Hi all

I am above the knee amputee and I plan to do a trek in Nepal during end of September 2004.

I will appreciate very much to share someones personal experience about doing a trek with an above the knee amputeed leg. It will also be great if someone can refer me to a person with a similar disability that already did a trek in Nepal.

Generally speaking what will be the easiest trek to do?

I hope I will get at least some replies and I will then go into more detailed questions.

Thanks in advance

Kimmron

Kimmron-

I trekked to EBC from Lukla in April. I used Arun Expeditions as my outfitter. You may be interested to learn that the owner of Arun, Gary Guller, was the first 1 armed person to ever summit on Everest, which he did last May 2003. Here is a link to their website:

During Gary's summit bid, Arun hosted a trek for a group of disabled people to Base Camp, and successfully got them there and back...This group included parapalegics and blind individuals. Some of the people were literally carried on the Sherpas' backs all the way to Base Camp!
I ended up becoming close friends with several of Aruns Nepal employees. Mingma is an A1 guide, and just a wonderful human being to boot. His email is lakpa2002@hotmail.com. Mention "Rod from Alaska".
I wish you the best on your journey! Let me know how it goes, and drop me an email if I can help in any way. I'm at seeker99@acsalaska.net
