Travelling in Nepal is an awesome experience, one that nobody who travels should miss. With the escalating troubles it is becoming increasingly advisable to employ the services of a guide in certain areas when you go trekking. Finding a guide is not difficult, they usually find you! Finding a good guide is less easy. I was lucky enough to trek with Shankar Neupane during my time in nepal. Shankar as well as being a very competant guide also has a happy personality which is contagious, listening to his stories on the trail provided great entertainment of which we never tire. I think he cheats at cards though, but that alligation is yet to be proved!
I cannot recommend Shankar highly enough to anyone who is contemplating trekking in Nepal in the future. Even after my trek was over i met shankar on many occasions, he took me on a cycle run of the city and even had me round to his home in Kathmandu to celebrate the dassain festival with him and his family.
Shankar comes from the makalu area of the country which makes it easier for him to guide groups in that area of the country, in which moaists are an ever pressance.
