Hi there,
We are two independent trekkers coming to Nepal in October 20. We would like to do Annapurna Circuit trek and are looking for a porter that could speak some English, or a porter/guide. Can you recommend someone who is good and reliable?
Also, would you recommend to book a hotel in Kathmandu in advance or we can simply arrive and try to find what is available? What is your experience.
Many thanks. Vita

He's an independent guide who's got a few very good porter guides who speak English quite well and are top people: Rame, Sham, Rescham, Shera, Ram. I have trekked with all of them at various times.

No need to book a hotel in advance. But you need to know where you want to go, else the taxi drives from the Airport are really pushy to take you to the hotel they get commission from.

I would say somewhere like Hotel Utse, Katmandu Guest House, International Guest House, Kathmandu Peace Guest House, Hotel Norbu Linka. These are some good alternatives. You can find most of these on the internet. Usually there are rooms, even in season.

My Porter from last May was Prem Rai. He speaks good english and was great fun! :)
his email is

Prem <prem.rai01@gmail.com>

if you do email a porter that lives in Nepal, and if they dont reply immediately it usually just means they are up a Mountain with no internet access :)
