Trekking Companions for Makalu and Kachenjunga Base Camps - another try
Hi
I am looking for trekking companions for the Makalu Base Camp and Kachenjunga Base Camp treks (yes, both)
I am currently in Kathmandu but plan to fly to Lukla on September 10th, or so, t begin the Everest Base Camp trek from which I expect to return around Sept 25th. My plan is then to trek from Lukla to Tumlingtar and begin the Makalu BC trek from there around Oktober 1st and return to Tumlingtar app. Oct 20th...and then cross over to Taplejung to begin the Kachenjunga BC trek around November 1st and return to Taplejung around Nov 20th.
Now, logistically, organising this is a bit of a problem for the Kachnejunga trek since you need a trekking permit to do this trek which is only issued to groups 9of at least two) if applied through a trekking agency. You don't actually need to have the agency organise the trek itself with guides and porters, it is possible to trek as independents, but the agency must obtain the permit (don't belive any other stories about permits, I have this directly from the Director General of Immigration whom I spoke to today about trekking permits for Makalu and Kachenjunga.) The logistical problem is that I plan to leave Kathmandu in a few days and not return before heading for the Kachenjunga trail. As for Makalu no trekking permit is required (again straight from the DG of Immigration despite what trekking agencies say) but you need to pay the conservation fee for the Makalu Barun National Park (1000 NRS); you also need to pay a conservation fee for Kachenjunga (same price)...You can get all the conservation/nat. park fees from the Tourist Bureau near Thamel...
As for me: I am 33 years old, male, and from Denmark. I have done a fair bit of high altitude trekking: did the annapurna circuit in 1995, numerous treks in Bolivia and Peru, Mt Kenya and Kilemanjaro in East Africa and many more in north america.
As for gear: I have all the gear needed, i.e. tent, stove, etc which we might at well share to save weight...
Anyhow, drop me a line if you are interested ASAP. I should have access to email until I leave Kathmandu and presumably also in Lukla and Namche Bazaar on the EBC trek over the next week. Please write also if you are interested in doing only one of the treks. I have all permits and park fees so we can just hook up at any trail entry, but if opting for the Kachenjunga trek we have to organise the permit in Kathmandu somehow.
Please email me directly on cthordal@yahoo.com if you are interested
