Daisy,

Your plans brings back memories of my trek to EBC last November.

Along the trail between Gorakshep and the Everest Base Camp
itself, as we passed the junction to Mt Pumori base camp, there
was a handwritten sign inviting any and all to come visit the
French group who were in the process of climbing Mt Pumori.
It said something like "pop in for some tea and music and a chat".

Over at the EBC was an American expedition, quite well cordoned off
with "tiger tape" and a message not to come too close, since they
did not want anyones germs jeopardizing their expedition.

I can certainly understand their concern, but for the mental well being
of some of the "ground staff" I think maybe they could have found
some way in between. Like letting a few visitors in but keeping
them at some 5 - 6 meters away (20 feet).

If you are outdoors, sitting around a table, at about 5 meters distance,
you can still have a conversation without catching each others germs.

Not that many trekkers make it all the way to the Everest Base Camp,
and the ones who do would have appreciated an opportunity to
share a snack and some chai with a real expedition.
