The two posts above smack of competing Nepali guides jumping on the bandwagon. Rival guides and trekking companies do not do themselves any favours when they do this in the same way as when advertising is put in the wrong place.

Neil, where are you from? It sounds like an English/Western name but your grammar seems to reveal that you are probably Nepali (apologies to you if I have got this wrong but we have had to put up with bickering and other nonsense from competing guides before on this board).

It is fair enough to warn people of unscrupulous practices of some companies but please back it up with an explanation, some reasons, some facts. Otherwise it is just one persons word against another.

As I have said before this sort of behaviour just results in prospective trekkers seeking information being put off altogether as they do not know who to trust. This way everyone loses.

This board is for people to ask questions about trekking in Nepal or chat about their experiences. It is NOT a forum for ADVERTISING, BICKERING and making UNFOUNDED COMMENTS with no reasons to back them up.

Dear Escher
I must say that I am shocked by the tone and content of your posting.
You have made some good points but in your second paragraph you have degraded them by a condescending and superior tone.

The incorrect use of grammar is not an indication of national origin. It is a wrong conclusion to assume this.

Grammatical mistakes can be made by anybody as you have demonstrated in your posting.
Please do not make assumptions about people.

Perhaps you should follow your own advice and not make "unfounded comments with no reasons to back them up".

Dear Escher
Thank you for your posting. You are a truly thoughtful and gracious person.
Of course we all make mistakes but not all apologise so courteously as you have.
Im sure that your experience and knowledge as to the origin of some of these postings is invaluable.

I hope that all who read these postings will continue to promote good guides/porters and warn us of the not so good.

Finally I wish that more people who employ guides and porters would ensure that they provide insurance for them and pay fair wages.

This does not cost a lot and after all it is the correct thing to do.

Terence
