No guarantees Sian. If by chance you dont get over the pass, be thankful for the chance to spend another week up the Marsyangdi, and do the other side another time.

Having said that, there is probably more to keep you occupied in the Kai Gandaki and Annapurna South Base Camp areas...but these areas are more developed. so its up to your own tastes.

I am leaving here March 5, and plan to start on the Besisahar to Manang part for some of the reasons rich mentioned. I figure I may get stuck in Manang for a few days, but there is lots to do in the town and the area. Can take time to get well acclimitized while waiting for the snow to clear, in the unlikely event that the pass is blocked. I have allowed plenty of time to get over the pass and back to KTM before I have to catch my flight out, in any case.

I hear that trekkers can get good info on pass conditions in Manang, because people travel in both directions all the time (not just trekkers, but horsemen, people packing stuff, pack trains, etc.)

So, maybe we will end up going over the pass at the same time, who knows.
