You can try any of the above. They are good value for mone. I can personally recomment Utse, Norling and Kathmandu Peace Guest House. Utse and Norling are particularly well located at the entrance into Thamel from Tridevi Marg, while Kathmandu Peace GH is in a very quiet area just outside Thamel in Paknajol, with nice views of Ganesh and Swayambu from the terrace.

Kathmandu guest house is better than International guest house because it is situated on the heart of Thamel(Tourist area). There are all facilities and services for you.

Hotel Vajra is indeed very good value for money. I have not stayed there, but I have been there visiting a friend, and was thoroughly impressed. Their library was impressive.... Also, it has character. I guess walking to Thamel, would bother me a bit, but still, maybe I will try it next time
