Hi. I am hoping that someone can give me up-to-date info on safety issues in Nepal.
I am leaving London on the 18th Nov and hope to do the Jiri walk-in to Kala Pattar and EBC. I have read that tourists are being robbed on this trek, especially between Jiri and Lukla and that tourists should avoid this area. There will be just the two of us and we hope to be self-sufficient!
Also I would appreciate any advice on the tea-lodges on the way...will a 3 season sleep bag be enough in the lodges for Nov/Dec in the high everest region?
And just one more question...will I need to book a guest house in Kathmandu for this peak trekking time?
Appreciate all your advice and tips.
Regards...Mountain Girl.

Good stuff Mountain Girl!
Should you be in Nepal after about the middle of December, I may see you around the traps...
If my waitlist comes through (I fly on FF points, and they treat me like &^%$) I hope to trek somewhere for 16-18 days or so...

hey yaksaver,

I am getting a sleeping bag here in my home country, and now very confused.

I was offered a few sleeping bags:

1. a lafuma synthetic sleeping bags with comfort level of +11 degree

2. a lafuma 800( warm n lite down) with down having a comfort of +9 degree.

3. a no-name brand sleeping bags , specification given as below:
Alaska Down Sleeping Bag

700 Fill power
Temperature rating: -22°C, -7.6°F
Dimensions: 230 x 80 x 55 cm
Weight: 1.7 kg

What would be your advise?

hey thank you for ur advise!

This shop i went to, most of the sales people use no.3. I was kinda hesitate in buying no.3 becus it is kinda bulky. unless i used much force, will i be able to shrink it into a smaller pack. If i buy this , i will have to carry them instead of dumping it into my packpack. I am planning to just carry my backpack and a day pack with me now.

For no.3, the length is 230cm! while i am only abt 155cm tall it will problaby going to take some time for the bag to warm up, u think so?

Despite all this above excuse i might have for not getting no.3, no.3 is still holding my attention. Just like what u have mention, it feel more snug around the body.

You might be interested to take a look at the bag

You see, there wasnt many shop in my country that sell this type of gears and thus less varieties or option to choose from. ...

I will be leaving for Ktm on Nov 15th, doing AC.

Flying from Sg to Bkk is getting a little difficult here now. long waiting list is forming. i am pretty fortunate to get a confirm seat, but not my friend.
