Along the Arun river. Most beautiful river I have seen!

Conventional wisdom says that when exiting Khumbu through the Arun Valley you either fly from Tumlingtar or trek to Hille and catch the bus to Dharan.

When trekking you do a long day on mostly flatlands from Tumlingtar to Magmaya Kola and then next day walk up hill all day to Hille, and then take a bus ride downhill to Dharan.

Could you not just keep walking along the Arun and end up somewhere not too far from Dharan in about the same time?

Rich,

Maybe I will take a look at Khandibari!
We meant to go there some years ago after flying in to Tumlingtar with the idea of going as far up towards Makalu as we could get.

We took a wrong turn however and missed Khandibari altogether.
.................

I think it is Irkua Khola.

After spending the night with a Hindu family near Majwa, I had one of the finest days of my life.
This is late November and there has been a light frost in the early morning hours. The air is nippy and there is a thin layer of ice on some puddles. We have been in cold climate since about two weeks and are quite sick of it.

I think it is about an hours walk from Majwa that you get the first overwhelming view of The Arun. From an altitude you see quite quite a few kilometers of the majestic winding river. And the you walk through the seasons! Spring lasts half an hour and then suddenly; butterflies and flowers and the smell of cow ****. And then you drop down rapidly towards THe Arun. Huge firns and colorful birds. Kids sell bananas.
You walk from winter to the tropics in 3 - 4 hours!

Soon!
..........

Sure it gets too hot once you are down at lowland altitude. Particularly when you have to walk on the white sand on the dry riverbed.

January will be great in The lower Arun valley, but if you are heading towards altitude youŽll freeze!
