How is Namche these days?

I plan to walk in from Jiri, reaching Namche on about day 8 or so. Last time I was there (1998), they had an electric washing machine and dryer, quite a novelty in that area then.

Where are they at now?
Internet?
Can you get to a wall power outlet to charge camera batteries? (Voltage?)

They have internet, but it is expensive--about 35 cents per minute. It is right in the middle of town. Not sure about charging batteries, but it may well be possible now.

voltage is 220-240v. I have seen tvs and videos operating in lodges in Namche, so I suppose that if you have the right addapter (similar to european I uderstand) you should be able to ask the owner to charge your batteries overnight.

Himalayan Lodge in Namche Bazaar has facilities for charging batteries at a nominal cost. There are two internet cafes in Namche but quite expensive.

Namche has now a trendy "night spot": Paradise Bar. It is a fun place to "acclimatise" with a few drinks in the evening.
