I did this trek Jan 2002 and it was great. The scenary was very varied especially if you continue up to Muktinath which you should do.
I flew into Pokoraha from Kth and trekked up to Muktinath via Jomsom. The accommodation is very good - cheap, good food. The trek is very regular - As long as you dont go in monsoon. December is good for the views. Its not too strenuos either 12 days is about right - any less is too much - we had a rest day at the hot springs of taotopanti.
As Yakshavor says you could combine it with another trek to use your full quota of days or go to Chitwain.
