We walked from Jiri but flew out (the best option I think).

Yes It was tough but we really enjoyed it! .... as you can go as fast or as slow as you want!
Not many tourists and everything was really cheap! (not touristy)

But if you only have 10 days then fly in!

to answer your question.....
I would chose Gyoko 5th Lake ..... but it is a hard choice!

There are two lodges. The first one is half a days walk from Gokyo, it is called Drangnag (you cross the Ngozumba glacier).

One night here and then a long day over the Cho-La (pass) to the next lodge (called Dzonglha) It is a Yak herding station.
It is a long day but it was easier than I thought (the very last part is quite steep on the Drangnag side)

If you are serious you should at least photocopy the Lonely Planet Trekking on this pass trip.

from memory we left about 7am and got to the lodge at 4pm (???)

There will not be crowds here! (there are no other lodges and they will be closed over the winter etc)

Gokyo is far more interseting and quieter.

however doing the route between Phortse and Pangboche is also worth while for the morning views.
