as above, I did it with my wife (no guide or porter) and nothing booked at all !!!! and we had no problems at all with getting a room anywhere!.
Only one night did we miss out on getting a private double room (out of 58 days) and that was off the main routes!!
but ... 90% of the time the first place we went to had rooms!!!
so... No problems!!!
