Hi, we plan to trek Nepal for the first time, Nov.03, EBC or Annapurna. Friends say it will be very busy up there since it is the 50th anniversary etc. What should we expect, full lodges and walking in crowds? Please advise. Nicole

Hi,

Well, I am going to EBC and Gokyo in Oct 2003 ... crowds or no crowds !!

Sure, there was a big rush in May/June this year to climb Everest ... but, the nepal treks are in any case popular. So, expect people around in oct and nov of ANY year !!

cheers,
- manish

Hi Nicole,
If you have planed in october to trek to everest base camp would be traffic and very crowded. In november, number of trekkers discrease because of cold.Does not matter of anniversary of everest. All the major events and expedtion happened in spring or some happens during october.Last Year,i was there from november 5th(from lukla) to november 27th.We meet only few people on trek.

Thanks Michael,
could you expand a little on why you prefer the circuit over EBC, apart from being cheaper?
thanks

I have been to both Everest and Annapurna and I thought the best part of Nepal was the exposure to the people - I thought that the Annapurna trek gave you a little more of that - interesting towns along the way - it was more like a pilgrimage than the push to EBC where you get there and there are a bunch of climbers in tents and its kind of anticlimatic so to speak and then you go back down the same way -

Gokyo is quite beautiful though and if you are in the Everst region I would go there instad of or after EBC.
