Still collecting "taxes"?

Hello All

Does anyone have info on whether the "taxation" is still taking place?

I regularly peruse the Nepal news sites, and although the Maoists are now part of the democratic government, there is comment that some factions remain in the hills and are not to keen on becoming a part of the new order.

Don't know how true this is, has anyone got an update about "collections" please? I'm off out there in October.

What happens today has little relevence to OIctober. Not much traffic during monsoon season.
Whether it is maoists or not I do feel that the young children who have grown up watching easy money being extorted out of trekkers could pose a problem in the future.

We trekked April/Ma 2008 in Khumbu started the trek from Jiri via Namche to Chhukhung, Lobuche, Gokyo, Thame and Lukla, there were no Maoists collecting money along the trail
