Hi,
I and three friends are planning to visit Nepal in March and make a trek in Langtang and Helambu for about two weeks. I have had contact with an agency in Nepal and they charge the following:
Food and lodging: $15 per person per day
Guide $21 per day
Porter: $7 per day each
Apart from this they also charge $150 for transport from KTM to the starting point of the trek and $50 for transport from Sundrajal to KTM.
I am under the impression that I am being overcharged here. Could you give me advise on reasonable prices for this? Is it possible to rent a taxi to go to the starting point instead of private transport?

I will throw in my view for what its worth. I have not trekked Langtang and Helambu but only EBC & Annapurna. The terrain may well be very different since it is not the well worn path as the others. However the kind of costs seem high to me. I would have thought just to give a ball park figure a similar trek in those regions would be well below what you have been quoted.

If you are tea house trekking, pay your own costs for food and lodging. You will pay at each lodge when you are leaving. The price for the porter is fine but too high for the guide. Transportation is okay as well. I did this trek with a friend a year and a half ago. Have a great trip!

Hi Oscar
What a tremendous response you got from, trekkers, guides, agents and all of them suggesting someone they knew to use.As a local operator I am sure the price qouted to you is quite reasonable however you have to make sure what is in the offing for the price before you commit yourself. However you can do it very cheap if you travell ,eat and sleep like local villagers(not like me though,I like the basic comfort while travelling).Mush said about price, nobody has pointed about crossing the pass to enter to Helambu region from Langtang. If you are combining both it is advisable to hire an experienced guide from local agents for Us$25/35 per day per person for an all inclusive T.shop trek.
Wish to stay with a local family while in Kathmandu instead of a hotel..email me at raajkhand@yahoo.com.
P.S. To all my local guides and others acting as Australian/Dutch tour leaders on this forum......stop acting stupid and get out of this forum, you guys can be easily detected by a single english word you use.
