On Feb. 20 till March 11 together with a friend I will be visiting Nepal for the first time. Naturally this event goes together with a lot question, of which we already had a lot of answers from this excellent site and from the Rough Guide. Nevertheless a few questions still remain.

Our aim is to experience as much of Nepal as we can in the short three weeks we only have. We have both some experience in trekking through Central America and Australie and our condition is fairly good and are confident we can walk up 5-6 ours a day(not really sure though how the altitude differences will affect us). Any trekking-route(we are thinking of the Annapurna Sanctuary ourselves) you can advise would be more than welcome. Our preferation goes to do the trek by ourselves, though I think hiring a porter/guide is unavoidable. Any recommendation on the best way to get this arranged would also be welcome. We prefer to arrange as much as we can by ourselves and avoid agencies, big crowds, etc.

Below a few more practical questions:

*Do we need winterclothes/sleepingbag for temp. below 0 Celcius?
*Is it advisabe to trek with tent?
*Do we need to arrange accomodation for the porter/guide during our trek?
*Any other topics we might have to think off!

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Hello Michel!
I am in your shoes and am planning to trek starting around Feb 20th - 11/12th March. I was planning to do EBC because it is more advisable for this time of year, rather than the colder Annapurna. As has been also recommended by your other response.

I am traveling alone and was also hoping to avoid the big agencies, but would like to arrange a porter to assist me with my bag and keep me company. I have since learned there are also guide/porters? If you and your friend are interested to join me I would be grateful. Please contact me and let me know.

best regards, Louisa

Is it possible to rent equipment (down jacket and/or sleeping bag) in Namche Bazaar in case I find my equipment insufficient???
