There is some expectation that use of paper is kept to a minimum although a receptacle of sorts (a tin/drum) is provided for placing the used paper into, it is common to simply wash the undercarriage with water.
Whilst a little bracing in the early morning at high altitude it is surprisingly easy to get used to and is a cleaner/result.
Some of the holes in the ground are in fact porcelain or concrete surrounds over which to squat and facilitate a "flush" by means of your tipping a slush of water down the hole afterwards.
Providing the users beforehand took some care and have at least average aim (which is pretty easy as your firing at almost point blank range) the facilities "should" be clean but like I said it depends on who was in there before you.
