I’m going to visit EBC and Gokyo in the late January and February. So I have a few questions about conditions on the trail.

I will come from Jiri. Where I should expect permanent presence of snow in the late January?

Is it true that the hotels in Ghorak Shep are closed in January and February? If it is true is it possible to reach Kala Pattar from Lobuche and back again to Lobuche in the same day?

Are there any other closed hotels above Namche Bazaar in January and February (on the trail to Gokyo and EBC)

Is it possible to reach Lobuche from Gokyo by Cho La Pass in winter and is there any open hotel between these two villages?

How dangerous for tourists is activity of Maoists between Jiri and Lukla

Chris , I can confirm Richards reply, simular conditions Feb 2002. About 10cm of snow in Namche that melted rapidly, most of trail had no snow to about Pheriche. Good trck other snow there up.

We did Lobuche to Kalar Pattar and then down to Pheriche in one long day that included a couple of hours at the top of Kalar Pattar. Descending to Pheriche gave us a very good nights sleep unlike Lobuche. After Kalar Pattar descending to Dugla would be a good compromise. The 1 1/2 hour descent from Lobuche to Dugla is well worthwhile if the daylight permits.
