Hello, Could you tell me exactly how much it would be for two male
students to travel from Kathmandu to Nepal 5 days? We have a very low
budget but are interested in seeing tibet if possible. We are willing to
travel as low budget as possible. We are interestedin travelling around
March 30th.

Thanks,
Berry

Berry,
I assume you want to go from KTD to Lhasa in Tibet, not from KTD to Nepal, as you are already there.

An organised 4-5 day trip, flying into Lhasa from KTD and back, should be just under 1000 per person USD. Even if you want to drive there it is not cheaper, perhaps more expensive. You need to be part of an organised group and get a Chinese visa in KTD, although it is perhaps easier to get it in your home country.
The rules seem to change every season, even every month, depending on the local situation in Tibet, and the attitude of the occupying Chinese local government.
China Airlines is the only airline flying from KTD to Lhasa, hence the price is reasonably stiff, at about USD 450 per person return.

I would not advise it if you are on a budget. There are amazing things to see and do in Nepal, for example for those kind of money you can trek in Mustang if you want something really remote and different. But even without that Nepal can keep someone busy for a lifetime of holidays...

Berry!

The flight in between Kathmandu and Lhasa has already called off. It starts from April or may be a little earlier. Now, the only option is overland journey to Lhasa and back, which requires at least 12 days. A 12 day budget tour costs approx. US $ 430 p.p. + US $ 26 additional for the group visa. At the moment, the traveling rules of Tibet have been changed. So, you can not travel with an individual Chinese visa. You most obtain the group visa, which is possible from Nepal only and you must stick with some other travelers as well as apply through the Tibet tour operator.

Good luck!
