Hey all. I am hiking the Annapurna Circuit in two weeks and was wondering a few things. Anytime in the past when I have hiked I have always brought things like chocolate bars and energy bars. I am wondering does anyone know if it would be cheaper for me to wait until I get into Kathmandu to purchase these, or should I bring them from home? Also, I am hiking for 22 days and staying in teahouses, does anyone know how much money a day it will likely cost me to eat three meals and maybe drink a beer or two and dabble in some hash cookies or opium?
Cheers,
Jamie, Vancouver.

Jonas,
There are plenty of Mars Bars, chocolate bars, etc at every lodge along the Circuit as well as the ABC trek. No need to buy anything in advance. They even have glucose lollies etc.
It would cost you about 1000 rupees per day including three meals and accommodation, and perhaps including a couple of beers.
The hash cookies or hash, well, I am silly enough even without them, so I am not sure how much they are - but they should not cost much.

Well, I just came back from doing the circuit. I spent about 600 rs. per day. I bought a big ball of hash before I left. the ganja at high altitudes is ripe. Shorter growing season than lower elevations. give a few colas to your morning cook and have him or her whip you up some ganja pancakes to get you on your way. Maoist problem was nothing to be concerned altho they are continuing to do their dumb ass violence trip around the country. Plenty of soldiers and guns on the trails. Lots of candy at the teahouses. No need to fill your pack with added weight. Happy trekking.
