Me and the girlfriend arrive in Kathmandu on the 26th of October 2002. Can anyone please tell me if it is safe in Kathmandu at the moment and whether any moaist rebels are in the Annapurna Region. Thanks

As daniel said so far no tourist has been harmed except agroup or two who were asked money but it is not sure wether they were Maoist or not.
Feel like staying with a local family in Kathmandu instead of hotel?

I just did the circuit alone with no guide or porter. Lots of soldiers and guns on the trails so the Maoists are a bit calmer than other regions of the country. Just be aware the problem is real but you stand a better chance of violence in your own country than here. Should you be at the right place at the wrong time you could get caught in a firefight but the chances of that are very small.
