also try this link - it has more excellent information.

Riruns website has great photos of the boulder fields which could be quite dangerous as rocks come flying down at high speed on rondom courses. One day a trekker will be collected by one of these.

If your planning doing Mesokanto La then try the high path on the way to Tilicho.

note that the Base Camp Hotel is not by the lake.

i went to Tilicho only once in mid-march 2001 - Tilicho Base Camp Hotel had only just opened for the season.

There was plenty of snow between Base Camp hotel and the lake. The lake was frozen. It was such hard work getting up there at that time that we turned back having on a few minutes look at the frozen lake. with only just enough daylight to get back to the hotel.

The hotel owner told us we were the first to actually see the lake that year.

Count about 3 days from Manang and ask in Khangsar if the Tilichobase camp lodge is open. Otherwise someone from the village will probaly go with you. Ask for the trail, the map of rirun ( see his posting, it is excelent).
He has also a very good map.
Crossing into Jomsom is more difficult, you would need a tent, stove and food for 3 days.
But going to tilicho and crossing later Thorong La is just one of the best side treks I could imaginge and afterwarts it was just a easy walk over thorong la, due to the good acclimatization.
