In April in leave for a long trekking through Dolpo, starting at Beni (south of Dhaulhagiri).

Anyone know what the current situation with Maoists in the region is? Should i expect to pay a bribe...er..i mean....a donation!?
If yes, what ammount should i budget for this?

I decided to move this post, to give it a bit more prominence. Anyone has any answer?

I have been on the Beni to Jomsom stretch last July and met no Maoists. Mind you, I have been deprived of directly meeting them on all of my treks, for some reason.

Dolpo, well, maybe webmaster has some idea about this.

In theory they should not ask for money anymore, now that they are part of the legitimate political spectrum. But they still do in some parts, we are told. Not regularly like in the past, and not with the same conviction, but it still happens.

Regarding budget, in Annapurna, if you meet them, they usually ask for about 100 rupees per trekking day. No idea about other areas.
