We would like to do a trekking and do some looking-around in Kathmandu in the 5 next weeks (departure now sunday 29 .09). Is the political situation safe enough and are there any tips or strategies we can follow to avoid any troubles?

No tourists have been attacked, but some tourists have been forced to make "donations" to the Maoists. The only problem would be if you got caught in crossfire or by a bomb in KTM. EBC trek from Lukla to EBC and Annapurna trek are fine. There are curfews in some villages (Lukla and Namche). Keep a low profile if there is a bandh (strike). I was there in April and May and it seemed fine.
