Black Market Exchange?

When I was in Nepal in 1988, most of the money exchange was done through the Tibetan black market. Best rates were given for US $100 bills. Is this still the case or do people bring travellers checks?

You can change money on every corner in Thamel at some 70-75 rupees for $1. The further you get from the capital, the lower it is. Maybe beyond big towns like Namche or Pokhara you will be able to change it with some people like locals or other trekkers. Is it what you mean by black market?
