I am doing the Everest Base camp and Annapura Hikes this Oct/Nov.
I realise that not all tea houses have showers.
But about what percent have hot showers? (I am talking about the cheaper Tea Houses)
about 20% ?? about 50%??
and about what percent have only cold showers ???
thanks

Hi, John:
For EBC trek (I suppose you start from Lukla), only Lukla is available for hot shower. For lower end teahouse, I think you have to pay extra money for that, and maybe you have to advise the teahouse owner before you need the hot shower since they have to boil the water first. It you really need the hot shower, especially when you come back from the trek, just like my experience in this Feb, you better choose a teahouse with 24 hour hot shower available, which you need not to pay extra money for that. It is worth to pay a higher room rate for a better teahouse. I stayed in a beautiful Teahouse just opposite the Lukla airport (I forget the name), and the room rate was only around Rs300 per day (50% off because of low season). I had a very wonderful hot shower bath after we came back from trek! For other parts of the trek, you have to ask the teahouse owner to give you hot water for washing. Never think about shower because it will be too cold for you, especially in winter time! In higher attitude such as Gorek Shep, even the water is coming from the ice.
Good Luck!

Sounds like you had best stay in the city and enjoy your creature comforts. About the best you will get is a bucket of hot water and you take a spit bath. Get real, you are going into the wilderness where there are no roads.
