Is TIMS is compulsory to trek in Nepal?

TIMS extends as "Trekker's Registration Management Certificate". As almost half of million tourist visit Nepal and most of them do trek. Trekking in Nepal can be a few days hike to till the lap of the great Himalayas. Most of the trekkers takes a service from the trekking company but there are some backpackers who just like to do themselves. If everything is fine with the FIT (free individual tourist) that is no problem but some time they cab be trapped by the different kinds problem. The problems can be HAPE, HACE or AMS (are mountain sickness), they may loose the way or encounter with the landslide, avalanche, trapping in the crevasse or getting sick. If they lost in the mountain or left sick there, they could be rescued if they are registered or someone knows. If they are not informed anywhere no one can follow to find them.
Trekkers will gain that they will get the professional and responsible guide or Porter if they want. In some cases they even took some tea partner as a guide and after they left with the problem in the mountain because their guide is not a regular. To avoid such kinds problem Nepal government has give an authority to register the trekkers to the Trekking Agency. Now FIT or group trekkers should take a TIMS to go trek. It will also help to have a data that how many tourists trekked to that region.
